To Be A Mother
To be a mother
Is the most challenging duty in life.
To care for someone
No one else does
Takes a heart of silk,
Soft but strong, and
Filled with humility.
To be a mother
With such a ‘challenging’ son
It’s a miracle, they say
How does she do it?
How does she care for
Such a lowly beast?
Her son was not a beast
At least not in her eyes.
In him, she saw a
Star, so bright and hot
But warm to her touch.
Such a gentle soul
With no wish for harm.
And yet, inside him
Blooms the heat of the star,
So when put off just right,
The star might burn you.
To be a mother
With a rebellious dreamer,
It’s a mammoth task
To quell him.
